Dipper Exposure Trails

Ever the artistic experimenter, my 14-year-old son Derek made this portrait of the Big Dipper. After opening the shutter, he reduced the lens aperture by 1/2 stop each minute. The result is a short set of startrails of decreasing brightness making each star look like a speeding comet!

Some clouds drifted across the view during the time the shutter was open, their motion making them ghost clouds reflecting the deep red of the summer twilight.
