Lake Powell

After spending the day as the region's water playground, Lake Powell briefly calms to a nearly smooth mirror at night. This view is just above the Glen Canyon Dam looking to the east. There are some distant landmarks on the horizon, some marked by beacons, others are illuminated by marina and navigation lights. This exposure is a composite of eight 8-minute exposures. During the period, the wind picked up, roughening the surface and broadening the reflections of the stars. The long exposures (for a digital camera) generated considerable noise, which was attenuated by median filtering in Photoshop.
